Preface

Welcome to the official web-site of the National Institute of Meteorological Sciences(NIMS).

Since its establishment in 1978, the National Institute of Meteorological Sciences has been devoted to a variety of research activities associated with weather and climate. The scope of our research ranges from forecasting technologies to remote sensing, marine weather, earthquakes, and Asian dust to support the missions of the Korea Meteorological Administration. The NIMS spares no efforts to consistently reform itself into a future-oriented research organization, while leading advanced meteorological studies in liaison with biology, industry, health, weather modification, hydro-meteorology, and green energy (wind and solar power, etc.).

As the Institute moves its office to Jeju in 2013, the year of 2013 will present a change and challenge to us. The NIMS will take this change as an opportunity for a new development. Based on this chance with a new office, the NIMS would like to build a global hub of meteorology by enhancing its international cooperation in weather, climate, and earthquakes as well as by operating a wide range of international programs for joint research, training and education, and technological transfer for developing nations. It will also expedite to widen the foundation for multi-disciplinary research through establishing a cooperative cluster among industry, academia, and research community to provide high-quality weather information.

New office in Jeju will serve as a good chance for the NIMS to make a new leap forward to be a mecca of meteorological research. We will exert our utmost efforts to become a global top-tier research organization, while leading the development of meteorological technologies.

Thank You.
